Blinds manufactured from blackout fabrics will help to make a room darker but will not block out light completely, due to the light bleed that is possible around the edges of the blind.
For areas that do not require room darkness, in addition to roller blinds, other blind options include vertical blinds, venetian blinds, pleated blinds, panel blinds and roman blinds.
Vertical blinds and venetian blinds will have a light bleed around the edges of the blind and through the gaps between the louvres or slats. Whereas the pleated blinds, panel blinds and roman blinds will have a light bleed around the edges only, therefore making these three types of blind slightly more effective at darkening the room than vertical and venetian blinds.
These types of blind are specifically suitable for:
These are blackout roller blinds with side channels for the fabric to run inside and block out light almost 100%. They are held by an aluminium head box at the top and sit within a bottom channel when fully lowered. The side and bottom channels will usually have brush seals to further prevent and light penetrating around the blind and the blind itself is sealed within the window recess.
This additional hardware and installation ensures the maximum level of blackout possible.
Cassette blackout blinds are suitable for:
