Commercial awnings

Marla are leading suppliers of commercial awnings in the UK. Helping a variety of businesses to transform their outdoor commercial space, we offer premium quality folding arm or drop arm awnings to suit a multitude of requirements and budgets.

To enable extended use of your awning when the light starts to fade or when there is a chill in the air we can accessorise with supplementary lighting and heating options. Lighting can be installed either underneath the awning cassette or in the front profile of the awning or infra-red heating installed underneath the awning cassette.

In addition to these customisable selections if you wish to personalise or promote your business all our commercial awnings can be sign written with your telephone number, personalised wording or printed with your logo using your own bespoke artwork. Drop arm and sliding arm awnings are particularly suited for commercial situations where sign writing is important due to the awning pitch being greater than alternative options, ideal for branding.

Our awnings use fabric ranges from Dickson and Sunbrella. These two ranges contain over 400 designs, including both solid colours and stripes and jacquards, many of which have special treatments to prevent fading, staining, dirt build up, or mould and to make them water resistant. Most awnings in the Marla range are available in white or brown powder coating as standard, however if you have a particular colour in mind then we can powder coat to any RAL colour.

Whether your awnings are required for retail, hospitality or leisure, we have a range of options to suit all needs.

Retractable awnings as changeable as the weather

We have a range of stunning retractable awnings which can retract with the weather should your customers prefer to enjoy the sunshine rather than be continually shaded. With electric awnings as an option this process can be quick and easy and cause limited fuss.

    Folding Arm Commercial Awnings

Folding arm awnings are probably the most popular form of awning system for commercial environments such as shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Folding arm awnings offer solar shading by shading an area to reduce glare, reduce heat gain and block out UV rays.

As the name suggests, folding arm awnings are operated by arms which fold out from the wall to extend the awning fabric and are more suitable when you have enough space available. The arms are operated by either springs or gas and keep the awning fabric under tension as the awning is opened and closed. makes good business sense.

Installation of a Folding Arm Commercial Awning

There are several factors that will affect the installation of a folding arm awning. We can help you with these considerations, including the type of awning, if it is end fixed or requires intermediate brackets, if it is attached to brick or concrete, and if there are any obstructions such as downpipes or gutters which will require the use of specialist brackets such as spreader plates or gutter brackets.

    Folding Arm Awning Options

    Open

This type of folding arm awning is usually the most cost-effective, however the roller tube and therefore the fabric are not protected from the elements. This type of awning is best suited to an installation beneath an overhanging roof or combined with a coverboard to protect the fabric.

    Semi-Cassette

This type of folding arm awning offers some protection to the awning fabric. The cassette may be open at the back, which is then covered when the awning is fitted to a wall. Some styles will have the folding arm exposed.

    Full Cassette

With this type of folding arm awning, the roller, arms and fabric are all enclosed within the cassette when fully retracted. A full cassette option therefore offers the most protection to the fabric and is most suitable for installations that are exposed to the elements as well as looking the most neat and attractive when retracted.

    Folding Arm Awning Operation

Manual – operation is with the use of a detachable winding handle which is attached to a gearbox which is fitted at one end of the awning roller tube. The gearbox can be fitted at either end of the awning to suit your requirements.

Electric – by adding electric operation to your commercial awning you can make usage effortless. The motor is fitted inside the roller tube and operated by remote control from either a hand held remote or a switch attached to the wall. At the touch of a button, your awning will quietly extend or retract at your command.

Sensors – electrically operated awnings can be automatically extended or retracted via sun and wind sensors. A sun sensor will automatically extend the awning to protect against overheating and the wind sensor retracts the awning automatically should the wind become too strong, protecting it from potential damage. By including sensor options, you can ensure that the awning fabric will ultimately last longer.

    Drop Arm Awnings

Drop arm awnings and sliding arm awnings are ideal where there is not enough room above your window for a folding arm, for high level windows, small windows or windows that require a much deeper area of shading.

Drop arm awnings have either spring assisted or gas operated arms which keep the fabric taught at all points of extension. One end of the arm is attached to the front profile whilst the other end is attached to a pivot point fixed to the wall.

If a long projection or clearance is required beneath the arms (for people to be able to walk under) then a sliding arm is required where the pivot point moves up a slide as the awning drops.

    Drop Arm Awning Operation

Operation of a drop arm awning can be either manual via a detachable winding handle which is attached to a gearbox or by electric operation using a hand held remote or wall switch.
